I Officially Belong

As you know, I recently began hair school. I cannot express how much I love it. When people ask me how it's going, I always respond by saying it's the only thing in my life that I've ever wanted to be perfect at. Haha. I'm totally serious too. I feel like I'm in my element. It even makes me feel smart. Let me demonstrate.

We just learned all about hair color and which I've discovered means that I'm on my way to becoming an expert chemist! Did you know that there are 21 amino acids in the human body, and 18 of them are found in hair? Or that there are two different kinds of melanin and depending in which one you have, you either have dark or light hair? Most importantly, it DOES matter what kind of shampoo you use!!! All the shampoo you can buy at a drug store is crap! It's literally detergent mixed with a bubbling agent that has nothing to do with cleaning hair, aka sulphates. If you color your hair and you don't use a shampoo and conditioner that you bought at the salon, you might as well have never colored your hair. Salon shampoo is built different, right down to the molecules. It's built to be able to penetrate the hair and provide the nourishment it needs from the inside, out. Plus, salon shampoo is concentrated so you don't have to use as much as often since you aren't stripping your hair of all the good things, which actually makes your body over compensate and produce MORE oil. Drug store shampoo contains molecules that are too big to actually get into the hair because they have to have a long shelf life to compete with all the other crap shampoos. The amount of detergent in them makes it impossible to actually be beneficial for your hair. Don't be fooled!! Sure the Pantene commercials promise shiny hair. They just leave out that it's because they put liquid paraffin wax in their shampoo, so every time you wash your hair, you've literally added another layer of wax to it. Gross. Get the products your hair stylist tells you to get! Sure it's pricey, but think about it. You spend all this money at a salon to get a specific result. Don't you want to protect that result to make sure you got your money's worth for that service? Your color will last longer, your hair will be healthier, and your scalp will thank you too.

Anyways... Now that I've done my duty to educate you on the benefits of proper shampoo and conditioner... Haha... Moving on.

After two weeks of learning all about color, I had developed an itch that needed to be scratched. Since being pregnant and having Warren, I haven't colored my hair at all. It actually got to the point where I had a full head of virgin hair. That has only happened once in my life since I began coloring my hair. It just seems wrong to be in the hair industry and not have anything interesting about appearance. I have this new found freedom to express myself and be totally justified. Everything I've wanted to do but couldn't find a reason to in the past, I have finally found the reason. Thank you hair school. I was meant to be in that environment.

I got my first henna tattoo, and I returned to having super blonde hair with a splash if color. Since having Warren one of my biggest struggles has been figuring out how to get my outside to match how I feel on my inside and I think I'm getting closer and closer. It's ridiculous how those small things can have such a huge impact on how I feel and how I carry myself.

It also doesn't hurt that I totally look like I belong in hair school now. Haha! Check out my before and after!

And in case you were wondering, Ray loves it. :D I love my husband.

Oh Canada

For the sake of informing my little missionary brother of my Canada Day proceedings in America, I present the following pictures.

Yes. That is a Canada cake. I made it all by myself! Woot!

I love Canada. My true north strong and free!

I LOVE SCHOOL!!!!

So I started school last week! I am officially a Paul Mitchell "Future Professional". Yaaaay!!!!!

Pretty much it's the best ever. I have a nice small class, and a really great teacher. We have already done a bunch of hands on stuff and I'm determined to do really well. Since I'm doing this part time, I go to class Monday to Thursday 5:00 -10:00 PM. It works out perfectly. Ray has the morning and afternoon to do his thing, and he's back in time to trade Warren off. Also, since it's in the evenings, I'm not battling with the early hours of the day that always seem to make me late for everything. Haha.

Seriously. I love school. I feel fully fulfilled because I'm LEARNING. I forgot how good it feels to learn, especially when it's something you truly enjoy doing.

I really look forward to my time as a student, and especially how it's settling me up for success in life.

And look what I did! I did this on my first try!!

We had a contest to see who did the best french twist and had all the other students at the school vote. But I didn't win!! Call me cocky or whatever, but seriously! It was a really pretty french twist! I'm trying not to be bitter... Haha...

At any rate, I'm super excited about this new adventure. I really feel like I made the right choice with this, and it's finally becoming clear that the reason Ray and I felt like it was so important to come to Colorado was so we could get an education.  The education opportunities that have come our way  being here are incredible. Things just seem to be falling into place and I like that.

Sometimes I like being a grown up.
